How to Clean a Driveway
Upon arrival, inspect the driveway surface to be cleaned for any cracks or damaged pieces of aggregate or concrete that could be dislodged during the cleaning process. Also, inspect driveway Sealcoat and recommend reapplication to homeowner if necessary, to preserve lifespan of driveway surface.
Next use leaf blower or high-powered lawn debris tool to move any large debris off of surface to be cleaned such as large sticks and shrubs, leaves, branches or any organic material.
After the driveway is clear of all debris and organic material then you can begin establishing a water connection from the water spicket outsourced to the pressure washer Inlet or buffer tank.
Before pressure washing with high volume and high pressure there is a prior step that must be performed. This next step is known as pretreatment. Pretreatment of a concrete driveway involves the application of a biodegradable algaecide and fungicide to the driveway. After the pressure washing technician applies algaecide and fungicide soap to the driveway then there is a standard dwell time of 7 to 12 minutes that must transpire. This time in which the cleaning soaps are allowed to sit on the driveway is removing all organic life such as lichen, mold, mildew and many other organic growths.
After the standard 7 to 12 minute dwell time, the cleaning technician is ready to apply pressure to the driveway through a high-powered pressure washer.
Most any contractor that is performing a professional pressure washing job will understand the importance of using a Surface Cleaner when cleaning flat surfaces such as driveways. Using a rotary style Surface Cleaner allows a cleaning technician to achieve an even cleaning result throughout the entire driveway and leaves no streaks behind. When attempting to perform a driveway cleaning with a traditional pressure washing wand it is common to leave behind streaks and miss many areas.
After evenly applying pressure through a rotary style Surface Cleaner throughout the entire driveway then the technician can begin rinsing the cleaned surface.
Once all of the driveway is rinsed clear of all organic material and debris then there is often a post treatment that will occur.
Driveway post-treatment is a simple reapplication of the same algaecide and fungicide to the driveway. The reason post-treatment on many driveways is necessary to remove residual stains and streaks.
